Custom tapered end mills are used for draft walls and deep cavities where straight tools rub or chatter. This guide explains taper specs and RFQ inputs for fast quoting.
Custom tapered end mills are chosen when a straight tool cannot reach the wall without rubbing, or when extra clearance is needed to reduce chatter. Taper tools also increase core strength at the shank side, which can improve stability in long-reach applications.
Taper Specs to Provide
- Tip diameter and taper angle (or diameter at a second reference length).
- Cutting length (LOC) and overall length (OAL).
- Neck relief requirements and minimum corner radii.
- Material, hardness, and whether this is roughing or finishing.
Coating and Edge Prep Considerations
For steels and stainless, coating and edge prep can dramatically change wear mode and finish. For aluminium/non-ferrous, flute polish and anti-welding strategy often matter more.
Send your taper geometry (tip diameter + angle/length) and work material.
