Custom Made Drill Bits: What Buyers Should Specify (and Why)

March 31, 20266 min readBy Solid Carbide Direct
Three-point flat bottom solid carbide drill with coolant-through design

Custom made drill bits are ordered for non-standard diameters, special point styles, or process stability in tough materials. Use this RFQ checklist to speed up quoting.

Custom made drill bits can include special point styles (flat bottom, forming), non-standard diameters, or coolant-through construction. The fastest way to get a correct quote is to specify depth, material, coolant, and tolerance targets in one message alongside the drawing.

RFQ Checklist

  • Diameter, depth, flute length, and overall length.
  • Material and hardness; any interrupted conditions.
  • Point style requirement (flat bottom, split point, forming, etc.).
  • Coolant method and pressure if through-coolant is required.
  • Tolerance and surface finish requirements; reaming after drilling or not.
Send your drill requirement and drawing.
